Plovdiv’s 17th Young Wine Festival: A Haven For Wine Lovers And Tourists In Bulgaria’s Historic Heart!

The ancient town of Plovdiv, situated in the southern-central part of Bulgaria, has, through its Young Wine Festival, which is now in its 17th year, gained another significant point in its progress as a major wine tourism site. The festival that spans over the days of November 21 to 23, 2025, is going to attract both tourists and wine lovers with the combination of the lively local culture, high-quality wines and excellent food. The number of participants at the festival this year includes forty-six wineries and sixteen food producers; thus the best wine and food of Bulgaria is going to be presented.

Set in the charming, ancient backdrop of Plovdiv’s Revival-period houses, the festival transforms 17 venues across the city into lively hubs for wine tasting and cultural exploration. The event offers a rare opportunity to sample the highly anticipated 2025 vintage from some of Bulgaria’s finest winemakers. Visitors can explore a diverse selection of wines, ranging from robust reds to crisp whites, as well as delicate rosés and refreshing sparkling wines. Wine lovers will also have the chance to taste lesser-known Bulgarian varietals, such as the indigenous Mavrud and Gamza, known for their unique flavours and rich history.

In addition to the wines, guests will indulge in a variety of artisan food products. Local producers present cheeses, charcuterie, sweets, and other gourmet delights, all expertly paired with the featured wines. As visitors make their way through the historical sites, they can enjoy tastings and engage in conversations with wine producers, gaining insight into the craft of winemaking that has been perfected in Bulgaria for centuries.

Plovdiv, one of Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, is gaining recognition as a prime destination for wine and gourmet tourism. In 2025, the city proudly holds the title of European Wine Capital, following its designation as the European Wine Destination in 2022. The Young Wine Festival is one of the key events that highlights Plovdiv’s dual appeal: a city rich in history, culture, and tradition, as well as a modern hub for wine enthusiasts from across the globe.

This year’s edition of the festival includes nine new participants, expanding the offerings and providing even more variety for attendees. Visitors will find themselves sampling wines from a diverse range of regions within Bulgaria, each with distinct flavours reflective of the country’s varied climate and terroir. From the light, aromatic whites from the Thracian Lowlands to the bold reds of the Black Sea region, the festival offers something for every palate. Wine enthusiasts can also look forward to several innovative wine blends and limited-edition labels from local wineries.

The festival is not just about the wines; it’s a celebration of Plovdiv’s unique spirit and charm. The participating venues, which include museums, galleries, cultural centres, and local hotels and restaurants, allow guests to enjoy the wines in settings that enhance the overall experience. Attendees will be immersed in the city’s rich history, with the picturesque streets of the Old Town serving as the perfect backdrop for a wine-tasting adventure. Each location offers a unique atmosphere, whether it’s the cultural heart of a gallery or the historical ambiance of an ancient house.

The Young Wine Festival is a significant contributor to Plovdiv’s tourism industry. The event draws international tourists, and its success has prompted the city’s recognition as an essential player in the global wine tourism scene. With over 500,000 wine lovers having already experienced its charms, Plovdiv continues to attract more visitors each year, fostering economic growth and a positive impact on the local community.

This festival’s timing, falling outside of the traditional peak tourist season, is particularly beneficial for the local economy. It extends the tourism season and brings international attention to Plovdiv as a destination that combines culture, history, and high-end gastronomy in one remarkable experience.

Looking ahead, the success of the 17th Young Wine Festival signals a growing trend towards sustainable wine tourism in Plovdiv. With a strong focus on local produce and sustainable practices, the festival aims to contribute to the broader movement of responsible tourism in Bulgaria. The event organisers are committed to promoting eco-friendly practices, ensuring that the festival grows in a way that benefits both the local community and the environment.

The Young Wine Festival represents just one part of Plovdiv’s continued evolution as a leading destination for wine tourism. As more travellers seek authentic, immersive experiences, Plovdiv stands ready to cater to this demand with its unique blend of tradition, culture, and modern innovation. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or a casual enthusiast, the festival provides an unforgettable opportunity to explore the city’s dynamic offerings while tasting some of Bulgaria’s finest wines.

If you are among those who can not wait to discover the less famous side of Bulgaria, then the 17th Young Wine Festival in Plovdiv can be considered as the best opportunity to meet the region’s wine culture in the most entertaining and close way. The festival is not only for wine lovers but also for the curious travelers who will be captivated by a great experience including among others exceptional wines tasting, and local delicacies of mouth-watering nature. Plovdiv with its extraordinary blend of historical, cultural, and flavorful aspects is already recognized as one of the best places in Europe for wine tourism.
